Emmy award-winning composer Thom Sharp was born in southeastern Ohio’s Appalachian foothills. After receiving a degree in music and teaching briefly in the public school system, he moved west to seek fame and fortune as a professional composer, arranger, and orchestrator.

After landing in California, Thom wrote arrangements for The New Christy Minstrels, Joe Sample, Wilton Felder, Harry Connick Jr. and others. His television and film credits are extensive. He orchestrated music for the movies When Harry Met Sally, and City Slickers. He has written music for numerous animated television series, including Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Toonsylvania, Casper and the award-winning “New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh”. Thom scored the movie “Ping” staring Judge Reinhold, Clint Howard, and Shirley Jones.

Thom co-wrote, arranged and produced Sue Robert's Parent Choice Awards-approved children's CD “Songs from the Circle”. And most recently produced the album "SunLight, SoulLight" which includes the artistry of some of Los Angeles’ finest musicians.

Thom taught at the acclaimed Grove School of Music for several years and currently teaches Film Scoring in the entertainment studies department of UCLA extension.

Thom owns Sharp Mountain Music, which specializes in music for string orchestra. Along with more traditional original works and beautiful arrangements of Brahms and Faure art songs, Sharp Mountain Music offers an extensive collection of alternative styles at every grade level.

	A 3 movement work for solo violin, string orchestra, and optional rhythm section. The first movement is in 6/4 and alternates between swing and straight eighths. 	This fast swing piece in g minor is reminiscent of the “Young Frankenstein” soft-shoe “Puttin’ on the Ritz” (Cole Porter) or that wonderful spy-oriented animation from the early 1960s. Playfully sneaky, with a catchy, singable tune, this work features a tutti pizzicato section, as well as some melodic moments for bass and celli. All parts remain in first position, with a couple of “funky” accidentals thrown in for fun. The swing-eighth feel keeps the mood appropriately shadowy!

	Here’s a set of 4 wonderful jazz tunes written to the changes of some of our most-beloved jazz standards. Each tune is neatly arranged so that the melody can be played by any section or individual, and so that any player can take ad lib solos. Rhythm section parts are provided as well as helpful performance tips. The pieces in this set are written in keys that will be most helpful to the students when playing with other jazz instrumentalists. This set is perfect for the gigging string section.

	Thom Sharp was told by a junior high teacher that young string players just can't get enough Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. He took her word and came up with this delightful swing version of Mozart's famous tune. This is all in first position and it swings. Even the basses get a bowed soli section.

61537	Wyoming Cowboys (String Orchestra) M
	This piece was written for the 7th and 8th grade string orchestra at Wyoming School district in Cincinnati, Ohio. It features optional percussion and a unique opportunity for your string orchestra to compose part of the piece themselves (the composer provides a melody for orchestras who may be disinclined to compose). Suggestions for composing the melodies are included with the score. There are also notations explaining common compositional devises used by the composer. This is a great teaching tool as well as an opportunity to impress mom and dad with the students’ compositional abilities.
