| Description: The Fanfare Overture was commissioned by the West Des Moines Elementary String staff in West Des Moines, Iowa in 2002. Designed for 2nd or 3rd year string players, the piece can be best used as a concert opener or closer because of its festive nature. Providing a good introduction to 16th note rhythms in comparison to quarter notes and eighth notes, the piece also clearly shows compositional form with two separate themes. The first theme is stated at letter A and susequently works its way to each section using quarter note slurs as its main technique. At letter D Cellos introduce a new theme, which holds the same character as the first theme but utilizes eighth note slurs. The 16th note motive moves in and out until H where the two main themes are stated together to help puch to the climatic ending. |
